The Myth of Icarus
The book is written by practitioners of a religion witchcraft. The narrative about the gods is fully theological rather than historical or even anthropological. It seems because if you're going to reference a myth to prove your point, you don't think to find out if there's anything out there that the ancients said about Icarus. This seems to be her own interpretation as I cannot find that sort of XCEC's from primary sources that I have read.
