The Three Problems Left Unanswered by the Big Bang Theory
All three of these problems were kind of being thrown around in the 70s. I don't think most cosmologists were deeply worried about them, but it was in the water. The common solution came from a guy who wasn't even a cosmologist at all. He proposed that maybe in the very early universe, there was a very brief period of very, very fast expansion of space.
