Diego Maradona was a fierce defender of Naples and almost an adopted son. When Argentina were playing in other Italian cities, the Argentine national team were booed they were taunted because of Maradona. This put many near-politon fans in a tough position. Were they to support the national team, Italy, even though they perhaps felt more allegiance to Maradona than to Italy? Or were they to stick by their city's hero, despite him playing for the team of another country?
