The Suicide of General Togyo

General Togyo turned his gun on himself in a suburban Tokyo house. He had waged a campaign of total war against the US and its allies. The samurai called their ritual act of suicide, seppuku, or harakiri. This time honored procedure was the last resort for members of Japan's warrior caste. But why didn't he commit formal traditional harakiri? There is a suggestion he wanted to survive.
