The Name Clovis - The Germanic Roots of France
Clovis is generally considered the first king of what would become France. Under his leadership, the Franks expanded their territory throughout Gaul. And Clovis had been baptized a Christian, and therefore the Franks embraced Christianity as the state religion. This was in contrast to the Anglo-Saxons over in Britain, who were also conquering much of that area but they did so while continuing to worship their Germanic gods.
