The Deems and Constantinople

The attraction of the Deems was also a result of the contraction of other available entertainments. Gladiatorial fights were gone in a Christian era, and as we've seen, Anastasia's wasn't keen on wild beast fights or sensual stage dancing. The silversmiths were clearly the aristocrats of this world, with cheese-sellers, cobblers and weavers down at the bottom. From the history of Rome we learnt that Diocletian encouraged every profession to form a guild so he could better regulate them.
