In Genesis 31, Jacob and Laban try to call a truce. They decide that they can't figure out who's in the wrong. And so they set up this heap of stones, and then have a meal. In an ancient eastern culture, you did not eat with a person unless you werea in a reconciled relationship. You would not break bread with an enemy.
