i don't know all the reasons why it would be hard for people to pay attention to the evidence. There's a book by a historian of science called witrus science. She makes the point that when people denyevi like scientific evidence, they're probably not really denying science. The evidence has some implication for something else that they don't like, or that's threatening to them. And so i have to think that that's really at the heart of this.
