I think this sometimes comes down to a fundamental tension in education, which is learning versus evaluation. And sometimes the need to evaluate can overshadow the need to learn and leads to less efficiency,. So I think the need to evaluates leads to a bunch of anxiety in students. Then you can feel shame even at this need to collaborate or be in a study group and then that can get in the way of actually learning.
