Buchanan's popularity grew, and there was a growing consensus that he spoke for a large chunk of the conservative electorate. Buchanan won the New Hampshire primary by focusing on his desire to stop foreign workers from entering the U.S. In 1996, Pappu Cannon ran as a Republican again, this time aimed at unseating Clinton rather than as sitting Republican president. After Super Tuesday, a poll revealed that 54% of those who considered abortion their most important issue voted for Buchanan.
