The History of the Americas

The Spanish encountered many with dense populations and some very big cities by European standards. The general story seems to be that technological, social and political developments came more slowly in the north than central and southern Americas. Some buildings were enormous, so the Poebolo Benito in Cacho Canyon in modern New Mexico was spread over two acres. It had something like 650 rooms in four storeys with ceremonial rooms incorporated into it.
