The full range of motion is better argument would get blown up if that was to occur. There is more going on when you train at a full range ofmotion than simply, what stretch position is the muscle in? And I wouldn't be surprised if a study came out showing that simply going to failure at using that partial range and a long and a lengthened position for certain exercise in certain muscle groups isn't superior.
