The Rate Locking Effect in the Housing Market

Before the early 2000s, typical amount of time spent living in a home between two purchases was anywhere from five to seven years. That's now almost 11 years. 80 plus percent of all mortgage homes today have a mortgage of under 5%. This is one of the fundamental reasons why we see a lack of inventory and in particular a lack of new homes being listed.
