The Spirit of Jonathan Edwards

In 1772, a hurricane swept through the Caribbean and in particular the island of St. Croix. A teen on the island wrote to his derelict father that it seemed as if a total dissolution of nature was taking place. Alexander Hamilton would later take up such a perspective on the hurricane.
