The Invasion of Vietnam in 1979
The Vietnamese invaded Cambodia Christmas Day, 1978. They overthrew the regime by January 7 and installed their own sort of cadre of Cambodian communists who were Hanoi loyal. And then a few weeks later, the Chinese Deng Xiaoping announced that he wanted to teach the Vietnamese a lesson. He described Vietnam as the Cuba of Southeast Asia but it wasn't intended to seize territory in a sort of Ukraine style scenario. It was more about inflicting some pain reminding the Vietnamese not to challenge Chinese interests.
