The Battle of Rome and the Battle of the Senons
The label gaul was a catchall used by the romans to describe numerous independent tribes who lived in and around the alps. The particular tribe that sacked rome was called the senons, and they were led by a strong warrior chieftain named brennis. They had come over the alps into the poe valley in the previous century and settled along the adriatic coast. This brought them into conflict with the etruscans, who had previously controlled the land.
