The Paradox of the Coalition Behind Donald Trump
Franklin Foer: The odd things about the coalition behind Donald Trump is that it does still seem to attract highly educated senators from Ivy League universities. He gets support from Christians despite his rather peculiar private life, and he gets support from military types despite his isolationism. How do you explain the paradox of his ability to muster support from so many people whose values you would have thought they would disagree with him at least? Well, the support from establishment Republicans, I think, is just a matter of cowardice; their base has just shifted.
