Mountain music has a real appeal for people, partly because it seems to be an unvarnished expression of the experience and lives of certain kinds of working class communities. But there's another key source for folk music which is much more explicitly political - from industrial heart lands in the early twentieth century. And this is the political music that cana protest. It was disseminated by the wabeles, the members of the i w w, the great syndicalist organization who were so important to radical labor agitation and organization in the United States.
