Galen's Beards, Is It Just Because He Was a Doctor?

Galen seems to be very unusual as a Platonist. Draws more on the Timaeus arguably than other dialogues of Plato. And also tries to weave together Plato with Hippocrates. Is it just because he was a doctor and so came at Plato from a kind of medical direction rather than a speculative metaphysical direction? Well I think it's partly that. He started with leading representatives of all the major schools, Sturg Epicurean, Astatelian and Platonist but found them wanting in some degree. In a number of places he says, I belong to no sect. I'm not a sectarian. Gail thinks you can't rule out the Platonist here
