Tecumseh Sherman and the Battle of Vicksburg
Tecumseh Sherman offered rations to Jacksonians who had their place of work burned. Many people took him up on his offer, and he distributes over 200,000 rations. But that does little to assuage the anger of the people. On May 16, Union generals James McPherson and John McClellan meet up and attack John Pemberton's forces. The Confederates are lined up along 140-foot ridge known as Champions Hill.
