I think Australian men use it in a sort of jokey derogatory way about women. Anita, Ruby, Nina these names are so common amongst Asian women is says something about the time. My own parents when they named me in 1967 would have been through a lot already A just generally in terms of what this country was like towards immigrants but also in terms of their own names and having them constantly mangled. They knew that people would mangle my name and it's one less thing to have to worry about.
