In 2012, Pope Benedict the 16th canonized Saint Kateri Tekakwitha. She's sometimes described as the first Native American Saint but that isn't actually true. There were already Native American Saints from Latin America like Saint Juan Diego of Mexico who is a Chitchemak. A man named Mark Theil, an archivist with special knowledge of Black Elk, met someone significant: George Lickstweiss.
