On August 15 1947 all the erstwhile Indian subjects of King George did not as we might expect automatically become citizens of the new nation. There is still a process left the country is independent but the people are not citizens and that process is being debated in the constitution. Arlana: The last set of discussions of the constitution actually says that this is perhaps the longest part of the constitution because it was mixed with issues of principle and practical importance at the same time.
