Louis XV was creatively limited by the 14th, whose shadow still cast over France. The XV would never top Versailles in size and grandeur,. financially and politically, it just wasn't possible. So if going big, architecturally, wasn't a viable option to project his manhood and dominion, Louis XV went small. Rokai was excess on top of excess, focusing on asymmetry.
