The Gift of Men
We do know that there are things that the Valar do not know directly. And this is one of them, the fate of men after death. Whereas the elves understand that their spirits at the end of days will go away with the ending of the world, men may not suffer that same fate. This is called the gift of a Louvatar, or the gift of men.
