The Importance of Definition in Dialectic Discourse
Socrates makes the point at 265D that the definition just given of love may be right or wrong. In fact, he's never really affirming the truthiness of most of what he said. He says at all events, it was that which enabled our discourse to achieve lucidity and consistency. So you've got to nail down those fluctuating words at the beginning.
