The 10,000 Hour Rule: The Importance of Deliberate Practice
The 10,000 hour rule suggests that expertise is not just determined by natural talent but can be cultivated through deliberate and consistent effort. Malcolm Gladwell borrowed the idea for his book called Outliers. A study on chess players found that at least 3,000 hours of deliberate practice was usually necessary to become a master in the game. In 2011, Mathé Saïd wrote about sport in his book Bounce. He suggested that 10,000 hours were needed to become an expert athlete.
