Is Sociology of Knowledge More Like History?
Strauss is very consciously writing for an academic or scholarly audience. He seems to be trying in a way to educate scholars in how they can begin to start working on this. There's something peculiar, or particular about the way that philosophy is done as distinct from other forms of knowing it was seen. And so what's counterintuitive here is that Strauss seems to be implying that philosophy performs better when it's being persecuted.
