The Importance of Symbols in Interface Design

Icons often convey meaning through a pictorial resemblance to something else. By having that connection to the real world and not to language, then another advantage is the fact they don't need to be translated. It's quite typical, as soon as one app changes all its icons, I remember when iOS changed all the icons in the interface,. There's an uproar across the internet and everybody has an opinion about it. So, it's very emotional within the design world, which is funny because I don't think it is as emotional amongst users.
