The Rise of the Common Reader in the 19th Century
Common sense can lead one to think that a surface level understanding of the words on the page are the intended meaning of, of the text. Most dispensationalists talk about this is whenever you see the word Israel in the Bible, it means the Jewish people of God. And so they see any and really most other Christian traditions do allegorize those and see the fulfillment of those prophecies not in ancient Israel, but in the church. They don't want to call it a tradition because they're doing nothing different than early Christians were doing.
