I'm kind of skeptical of a lot of empirical results that economists find and then sell intellectually in the marketplace. That aspect of academic life has taken a terrible blow, I think, for the good in the last 10 years or so as people have realized that peer-reviewed is not always true. When I encounter economists who haven't come to that point, it's weird to talk to them because their certainty is so palpable to me. The question was so alien to him. It had never crossed his mind.
