Reformation in Late Medieval England
The second edition of the Book of Common Prayer from 1552 would turn out to mark the limit of established reform in England. Historians now cannot decide when the reformation occurred, and that by the end of the century English churchgoers were decontalized but unprogynized. What they were not is a good deal clearer than what they were. They might well have appreciated the summary of the reformation found in a classic book called From Beowulf to Virginia Woolf.
