The Importance of Walmart in the Nifty 50
Some of these companies were trading at 70, 80, 100 times earnings. Walmart had come public in 1970. If you put Walmart in the nifty 50 and you put 2% into Walmart and you run the numbers, the nifty 50 beats all the indices by a mile. So it does really well. If you take out Walmart, it performs terribly. Okay. And Walmart is in there at just 2% weightage at the beginning. It causes this because Walmart in 1970, they when they had come public, I mean, the market cap was less than 30, 40 million.
