A nuclear explosion of this size would answer that question. With an energy equivalent to 1000 megatons, the bomb dropped on Hiroshima was 20 kilotons. This means the weapons were detonated by… someone else. Aliens. Maybe whoever destroyed Mars ignored us. Reptiles wouldn't pose much of a threat to them. But what if they return?
