Pregnancy in plots, it's a handy speeding up device. Once somebody's pregnant in the story that you've got nine months to sort something out. Many fewer people in soap operas have abortions than they should. And many more people actually give birth to unplanned children. That's because an abortion brings a plot to an end. But if I don't watch Eastenders, but as 12-year-old Lily Slater deciding to have a baby at the moment, rather than having an abortion on national TV, one of the reasons for this being apart from the horror of that being said.
