Popper says better ideas in epistemology come to us from Britain via people like Bacon and the empiricist notion that you yourself, you can observe stuff and come to know stuff. But ultimately these ideas also leads to a kind of authoritarianism. Popper today gets through these guys, Bacon and Descartes and manages to finally come to fallibleism and its long history. He traces it back to the pre-socratic philosophers and chief among those is Xenophanes.
