The Right to Scandal

Charles says that the intellectual comes into being by exercising what he calls the right to scandal. So this means that the intellectual from the very beginning is mired in politics. And so yes, you might be a scholar if you have expertise, but you cannot be an intellectual unless you have that public discourse shaping power.
