Patent Ductus Arteriosus
In utro, there's no need to send blood to the baby's lungs. The ductus arteriosus is kept open by PGE2. It provides enough oxygenation for the baby until surgery can be performed. In a patent ductusarteriosus where you want it to be closed, they'll give an NSAID to stop prostaglandis. Potentially, prostaglandins are released from the prostate gland.
