The Impact of Spotify on Podcasting
The way people are consuming podcast is changing. The way creators are producing podcast is changing as well. I think when we also look at podcasting as its own economic ecosystem, it's really interesting to see the effect that Spotify in particular has had on the industry. From 2018 to 2022, Spotify invested about a billion dollars into podcasting through acquiring companies like Anchor and media companies like Gimlet. What happened is that ROI didn't necessarily come and Spotify has started pulling all of these funds back and almost created a podcast recession.
