The sound of awe is remarkable. It's like a signal, but here's where it gets really cool, which is that it produces words out of that. How do you tell somebody something's cool? Like, wow. And then we start to think about how music certain forms of music make us feel awe. They have the sounds of whoa in the musical passages.

Dacher Keltner is a professor of psychology at University of California, Berkeley, who directs the Berkeley Social Interaction Lab. He is also the founder and faculty director of the Greater Good Science Center. His latest book, Awe: The New Science of Everyday Wonder and How It Can Transform Your Life, is out now.
