The Hotel, Occidental, Is a Great Hotel
Carl Rubbinson is a kind of a clown figure. He ends up getting like antagonizing and being beaten to a pulp by all of the other lift-lift boys who are fine, strong young men. All of this is enough for some other number of staff to cast these aspersions about Carl and what he must have been up to. His boss sort of finds him out in stages. But there are also suddenly in love and really sort of generally this is an enormously fat cook and there's enormously thin head waiter who are like sort of caressing each other. And you know he's accusing him of all sorts of things which he hasn't done but which are vaguely suggested by this
