The Wheel, Out of Machine Is a Machine

The wheel is one of the earliest machines we ever hrd about. It's funny, because the wheel, in a sense, you know, re inventing the wheel. We use the wheel as a kind of a metonim for the whole technological process. So the wheel is a symbol of liberation, but also of imprisonment - and i think that's what todorovskyis getting at. All of a sudden the wheel becomes everything. But then it petrifies, and it has to open up on to something new.
