The benefits of social media largely do require amplification. The problem is there is one sort of set of incentives that is largely dictated by one institution. Different groups might have different things they care about, so there are these little patches in space that have different rewards and benefits. But we're still kind of playing exactly one game, in a sort of abstract sense. And i think that's where we keep on having these problems, because the system can't evolve fast enough.
In this episode of Infinite Loops we speak with Johnny Nelson, @generativist, on the state of Social Media and the Internet. We discuss about:
- Managing your attention
- Algorithms: Good or bad?
- Censorship on social media
- What will make people adopt a new social platform?
- Is history an accurate predictor of the future?
- And a LOT more!
