The shots fired at Lexington Concord rang out all across Europe as this huge sea change. I think that's a huge sort of starters pistol for the race to a new era. The actual news of Lexington Concord didn't actually literally reach Europe for like five or six weeks when it first crossed the Atlantic and it just cascaded across newspapers throughout Europe. In 1775, 76th, the French Revolution had not sounded as toxin to the peoples of Europe. Most of them had lived under the rule of a few absolute monarchs. It was the age of the quote unquote enlightened despots who generally had the welfare of their subjects at heart but did not acknowledge their right to govern themselves.
