Why More Statues Are Not Torn Down
There's a little bit too much reading into public response to this. Most statues people are completely blithely unaware of who they are. I think there's also something hinted at by jen reed, which i think is very interesting and important for us to consider. What happens when social norms change faster than the law is able to? There'll sometimes be earthquakes, e things in the harbor. That's not a changing social norm. Criminal damage, i'd hope, is not a social norm that changes. Wi the social norm that has changed was the attitude towards this statue. It doesn't matter what you did, but why you were doing it - that motivation was a real key
