I'm Learning Mandarin

CHAPTER

Is There a Difference Between Studying Japanese and Mandarin?

I wonder whether you think it's possible that the best kind of advice on this would vary depending on what the language is. I say that because for example there's the polyglot Vladimir scultetti who speaks about 20 languages and he also studied Japanese for around a year. He says that when he studied Japanese at the initial stages he found it much much easier to be able to pick out individual words that he learned when then listening to it into in a native context. When he studied Mandarin because of all the homophones it was much more difficult to do that so I wouldn't know but I wonder whether you open to the idea that might vary depending on the language.
