I think maybe to take that litany of verbs and compress it, I would say that what we've seen happen is a kind of functional differentiation where you have different people who are tasked with producing criticism about different kinds of objects. And so the public has become increasingly segmented at the same time that the organization of something like the cultural field has becoming increasingly segmented. But yes, that kind of sweep that you describe does feel in many ways out of reach or perhaps we haven't quite figured out how to mobilize the kinds of technologies on offer for new kinds of public creations.
