Why Kids Fascinated With Dinosaurs
Stephen Jay Gould's ideas about evolution stirred a pot of controversy within his field, but what new big ideas worth their salt do not. He made science accessible and exciting for the general public with 20 books and more than 300 essays that referenced history, poetry and baseball. The story of his entry into the field of paleontology was almost too boring to tell because like so many people in his field he was just the grown-up version of that kid staring up at the museum with his jaw gaping wide. A friend of mine is an eminent child psychologist once gave an answer which maybe a little oversimplified but I think is basically pretty good. All is why kids are so fascinated with dinosaurs.
