The Origins of Greek Statues
Kuros were commissioned and dedicated by wealthy families to commemorate the death of a loved one. The Greeks portrayed their statues in the nude, since they were very interested in physical anatomy. It exemplified two important aspects of archaic art: an interest in life-like vitality, and concern with the design.
