Intimate Relationships With God - Is That True?

I perceive that the priests of Jesus' time would have related to God primarily through reverence and maybe occasionally through intimacy. Is that square with your reading of scripture? Kind of. But in some important ways, not quite. It might just be our own shared kind of upbringing and Protestant tradition that tends to look on more liturgical or ritual forward practices of worship as just, it's foreign.
